Combined learning methods for better results
Leadership Development
Kristiansand, Norway – December 27, 2011

Blended learning refers to a mixing of different learning environments. It is an area with great potential. Blended learning combines the most appropriate learning methods for a superior learning experience. E-learning stands out by combining benefits of web-based technology with other forms of training. In an article published by Financial Times they refer to an increased trend of these methods, particularly in leadership development. For large, worldwide organizations, this entails a number of possibilities. For example, e-learning courses offer a flexible training of basic concepts and theory. Seminars can thus almost exclusively focus on experiential learning and training.

MindIT has partnered with the global performance improvement company The REACH Group, based in Houston. MindIt took the customized leadership content created and licensed by The REACH Group and produced e-learning versions for The REACH Group contract with Seadrill and North Atlantic Drilling. The e-learning courses provide the basis for internal leadership seminars conducted by The REACH Group for Seadrill's global drilling rig fleet. These seminars are then followed up by rig site coaching performed by The REACH Group. These Leadership seminars are held at selected locations just before the rig-site coaching for all Seadrill crews. Before the participants meet, they complete online training in key leadership theories and management tools via the e-learning program. Participants complete an analysis that identifies the leadership style they use most, and whether this is the most appropriate leadership style to use in given situations.

Mette Midthun WaldeQuote: “The courses for leadership development and coaching have been the best received and most positive training experience I've ever been part of in my career. Hats off to the teams who have been involved in this process.”

Leadership development program

ModelThe leadership development program is delivered to Seadrill by The REACH Group, a U.S. held company that specializes in the implementation of performance improvement programs for the oil and gas industry. Leadership seminars are held to establish a common platform for the basic leadership principles in the company. Participants are introduced to various management tools that can contribute to better leadership. The central theory comes from Ken Blanchard Companies Situational Leadership® II. This concept teaches that leaders must select the most appropriate leadership style for even the same employee dependent upon their development level for any specific task. The model shows the 4 different leadership styles that are discussed. The REACH Group is a certified Situational Leadership® II provider.
